Buying RV insurance can be simple, and there are ways to save money

Lots of RV insurance companies provide multi-vehicle discounts and multi-policy discounts. The challenge is knowing which companies offer the best discounts and then getting the necessary access to request quotes. RV insurance can be expensive, but don’t miss out on saving money.

What coverage is included in an RV insurance policy?

Liability – Bodily injury and property damage you cause to people and property in an accident.

  • You can expect limits to be as low as $30,000 per person and $25,000 for property. Consider increasing if you have the budget for it because anything can happen in an accident, and costs add up quickly. Anyone who has updated a home or experienced an emergency room bill is well aware.

Collision – Covers damage to your RV due to an accident no matter who was at fault.

  • Requirements – If you have a loan, your financial institution will require you carry collision. Outside of that, collision is an option. Consider it if your RV is valuable.
  • Deductibles – Typical deductibles are $500 or $1,000. The higher the deductible, the lower your premium. Just remember you will pay the deductible amount if you are in an accident.

Comprehensive – Coverage for your vehicle if it gets damaged from an event other than an accident. Weather related, vandalism, and vehicle theft are examples of claims covered when you carry comprehensive.

  • Deductibles – Comprehensive deductibles are separate from collision, but you will have the same dollar amounts to choose from: $500 or $1000.

Add-ons and important considerations

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage – Some states have upwards of 30% drivers who fit this category. Imagine being in an accident that wasn’t your fault, and the at-fault party doesn’t carry insurance, or the insurance is inadequate for the amount owed. That could be life changing. Adding this coverage is low-cost and a good investment.

Good to know: Insuremart works with over 100 insurance carriers. Nothing gives you an advantage when buying RV insurance — or any insurance — like a great agent and more options. Talk to our agents.

Total Loss Replacement – Who doesn’t want a new ride after a vehicle is totaled? Sometimes replacement coverage is good for a set number of years before it changes to coverage based on value before the claim. Talk to our licensed agents about your options and restrictions.

Agreed Value – Choose how much coverage you want. There will be limits, for obvious reasons, but you can set the amount of coverage to what the insurance company will allow.

Full-Time resident of your RV? – Make sure to disclose if your RV is also your permanent or long-term home. You’ve got your freedom, now just make sure your possessions are fully covered.
